Why Us?
We are Steel Consultants, we source, price, deliver and educate about steel. We know just about every steel manufacturer or sheet metal shop in the nation. We know where and who to deal with. Who is worthy of your dollar and who will disappoint you!
Alan is a self made steel expert in steel-he has been to the mill and back and backs up his knowledge with results and mill reports.
Alli is an artist and environmentalist. Together we make a great team.
We defined ourselves as Eco-Adventurous Entrepreneurs!
We are blazing a trail!
We bring our passion for steel, people and the planet to everyone!.
We know how steel is made, how mills work, how to buy right and how to use that knowledge to empower the “green” building concept based on education, truth, integrity and common sense!
We have traced the carbon footprint of USA made steel and we source steel all over the world. We have a passion for educating the public and are very aware of the convoluted way in which steel is sold.
If you are a LEED AP or anyone interested in the real steal on steel call us. We are here to work for you. We are your one stop shop for all things steel.
We are inspired by steel and the amazing architectural diversity steel is known for.
We are passionate about steel and we realize steel manufacturing can be a very dirty job. But USA steel mills are improving and some off shore mills actually have higher environmental standards than USA mills so we are always sourcing the best. We prefer USA, we prefer EAF furnaces, and we prefer people to spend their money here in the USA but we realize that some preferences are not always realistic.
So we make sure we know every mill of origin’s environmental and economic practices and we convey that to you so that you can decide how to build your dreams.
Here are some of the issues we focus on.
Cost: Bottom line the price has to be right. We have created that powerful of a network of good mills and excellent fabricators. Steel IQ, Inc. is the only roofing panel distributor that has a proprietary relationship with the mill of origin. And we source everything not just roofing so call us.
Service: We work for both you and the steel industry. We want steel to succeed and continue to create the structures we live, work and play in.
Coal mining is the #1 in destroying habitat in the world not just in the USA. We have to use less coal! We have to find better ways of smelting and melting steel to make it cleaner and less toxic.
Scrap Content:We have to demand the highest recycled content possible! It only makes sense to use all that crap in the landfill and make something good out of it. Scrap is the key source for steel so domestic scrap vs. over seas is a realistic and cost effective measure to bringing the best product to market.
Keeping jobs in the USA. Steel IQ does not want to put anyone out of business….rather we wanted to put more people back to work…so we support all local roofing companies, roll-formers, builders and do-it-your-self home owners.
We are willing to risk…telling the truth!
Success to us is providing you with the healthiest, most planet friendly steel possible at the best price!
In a perfect world our mission is to convey the following!
Supporting local communities:
We do not offer installation. A regional professional must perform all installation. By providing the panel packages (five different panel profiles to choose from, trim packages or spools of coil for on site trim design we increase the chances of a regional contractor winning the bid instead of a larger conglomerate). Unlike large service centers and steel providers, we do not compete with manufacturers that use our panels. We do not undersell to their clients. We have a seen it for years and we think that is just flat out wrong. You will always know and can confirm that we have not marked up your price or bought and resold some bad steel.
Provide the widest variety of panel profiles:
In a bare product- this expands a small roofing companies more options, saving them from having to invest in machinery or become slaves to service centers that over price the steel.
Branding a greener steel.
We have branded our favorite steel “Bare Naked Steel™” based on the integrity of the mill of origin, and the total impact our steel has on the planet (carbon footprint)! Most people know it as “coreten” or “rustic metal” but we can and will tell you the difference and we will beat any price. Some imported “rustic” steel will only last 10 years at best. The USA steel we “branded” has a life cycle of 100 years in arid areas. Less in coastal but still a good 75 years. We did the math it was that easy.
From the very start, Bare Naked Steel™ has:
The highest recycled content than any other steel on the market 70.2%.
Manufactured exclusively in the USA in an ISO 14001 facility.
Clean efficient, safe- Electric Arc Furnace Technology
EAF uses 67% less coal and 40% less energy and is safer than Blast Oven Furnaces.
- This steel is the exact same steel that bridges beams and guardrails are made of “ASTM A606 Type” to be exact. Those bridges have held up for over 150 years so we think the average building, house, and barn and out building is good choice for a bare product.
- We are committed to changing the way the world manufactures steel! We believe steel is “fabric of America”! Steel built America…now its time to go greener. We are ECO-Evangelical…meaning we are out to save bare steel. Bare steel is beautiful in its natural state and we believe it is the most luxurious deep cinnamon color is the definition of “going green”. We believe that steel will become the leader in roofing and out building products replacing petroleum based asphalt shingles, painted steel and wood-based products all together…so it is our mission to make sure that steel is managed in an Earth & Human Friendly way!
- Programs like LEED created by the USGBC are good but not good enough when it comes to steel! It defies common sense to settle for imported cheap steel, which does qualify for the LEED’s single point system-but destroys rain forests, waterways, and kills youth working in horrible conditions in third world countries.
More facts on Steel.
What about Cool Roof Paint?
SR (Solar Reflectivity) Value… The Truth about painted steel!
The toxic process of galvanizing (required to paint all steel) regardless of the color or SR value is not congruent with energy savings. The process is so toxic…the paint matters very little. It is like putting a dress on a pig…it’s still a pig.
The CCRC (Cool Roof Rating Council) and the Paint industry have spent millions of dollars to create a belief that color equals quality. It is a paint job! Without the proper insulation a painted product offers little to no energy savings. High Solar Reflectivity paint is not a guarantee and the galvanization is so toxic it just does not make “cents” to pay more for a perceived value rather than a real one.
The professional installation of a steel roof with more insulating underlayment and water proofing membrane is the key to getting the highest energy return on your steel roof not the paint!
The Bare Naked Steel™ product out performs any painted product; it is just a matter of picking the right gauge of material for the environment.
The future of Metal and Green Building.
It is a mark of shame to buy cheap painted off shore-forest destroying steel. It shouts loud and clear that that consumer, designer, architect, LEED Consultant ect. did not care about the jobs lost to foreign countries, clean air and water, tragic deforestation at the expense of mining and the list goes on and on. We cannot afford let steel manufacturing destroy our planet. We really can do better and save money.
Call us we are happy to answer you questions and educate you on how to be green with steel.
