Naked A1008

ASTM (A1008) is called cold roll. This product oxidizes to this deep red brown color. It is so beautiful we don’t know why anyone would use a painted product. It is maintenance free. No painting, sand blasting, acid washing… Mother Nature does the work.

We use A1008 the term the American Society for Testing and Materials (www.astm.org) provides. These standards must be stated explicitly at the time of order at the mill of origin, prior to production, to ensure that a steel product meets the consensus standards set by the ASTM to ensure a products quality, safety and technical specifications. Our process ensures that the ASTM guidelines have been met, can be validated and this guarantees that the material is Eco-Smart.
Our A1008 is obtained by only the manufacturers that procure their raw steel products through us. We can certify that the steel does in fact meet our green check list.
Bare Naked A1008 does not have the copper content that A606 has which gives it a bit more brown hue to it. It also does not rust as uniformly as A606; however the cost is significantly less. Without the copper, one could say A1008 is “greener” it all depends on the project and the specific use.
Bare Naked A108 is available in all gauges. The gauge determines the thickness of the steel. Thicker steel will last longer than thinner steel; depending on the gauge one can expect A1008 to last 30-50 years. A 1/2 inch plate is going to last over a 75 years.
Most painted products are a 29GA; 29GA steel can be bent by hand. Bare Naked Steel roofing panels are 22GA which can not be bent by hand. Meaning the machine that rolls our panels is an industrial grade and produces a tougher ridge meaning longer life of the roof or siding. You should not have to worry about hail damage.

A1008 is the least expensive rustic steel roofing material available.

Bare Naked A1008 has 8.6% pre-consumer and 56.8 post consumer recycled content of which 100% is domestic scrap content. Using foreign scrap is not as green as using domestic scrap, it is usually bought from all over the world…India, China, Mexico and we all know these companies buy our scrap, and then resell it to us meaning big barges traveling back and forth.
All steel is 100% recyclable after use.

Bare Naked A1008 uses 100% domestic recycled scrap; this is a huge factor considering most mills buy scrap from all over the world. The price of steel is directly determined by the price of scrap on the commodity market. If the scrap is domestic that means it came from American scrap yards. These scrap yards play a huge role in the American steel economy. Scrap is made form all kinds of metal but mostly automotive. Those crushed cars, trucks; buses are the first link in the supply chain. They were once driving our roads, providing us jobs and driving our kids to schools. It matters!
To be Bare Naked A1008 the must be produced in a facility using an electric arc furnace instead of blast furnace in order to reduce the excessive amount of coal used to produce steel. The reduction of the “carbon foot print” is essential to green steel. It is our opinion that there is no such thing as clean coal so reducing the use of coal is a green hot issue.
