COR-10™ is Naked A606
ASTM A606 or Cor-10™ (our trade name) product oxidizes to this deep red rust color. It is so beautiful we don’t know why anyone would use a painted product. It is maintenance free. No painting, sand blasting, acid washing, no paint flaking, no chalk, no fade. Mother Nature does all the work…Naturally!
This product is often called Core Ten, (Core Ten is a US Steel Trademark-which is no longer produced by US Steel). The technical name is A606 Type 4, this is the term the American Society for Testing and Materials (www.astm.org) provides.The ASTM standards must be stated explicitly to ensure a products quality, safety and technical specifications are accurate. Foreign steel products do not meet or recognize the ASTM.
Any other product is a “knock off” and is often produced off shore (China, India, or some other third world country). Meaning there is no standard, no guideline, no EPA, OSHA and even though you may pay less…you will pay more in the end when the product fails and your clients regard you and your company as con-artists!
Our A606 or Cor-10™ is mill direct! We developed a proprietary blend of alloys that provide enhanced corrosion protection to prevent pitting that is ignorantly associated with a bare product. Cor-10™ is manufactured by the only American mill that uses 100% domestic scrap! This Mill is also recognized by the EPA and OSHA for their commitment to Environmental practices! Cor-10™ is the Greenest Steel in the world!
The ASTM guidelines can be verified by heat and coil number or MTR report as proof that this material is meets our Eco-Smart™ Certification.
Bare Naked A606/Cor-10™ is 22GA depending on environment our 22GA A606 can last as long as 70-80 years. When using plate for siding or other architectural details an 8 or 11GA plate will last over a 100 years. Just check out the next bridge you cross.
All other steel roofing products are a 29GA-this light gauge steel can be bent by hand. Our panels are 22GA can not be bent by hand. Meaning the machine that rolls our panels is an industrial grade and produces a tougher ridge meaning longer life of the roof or siding. You will not have to worry about hail damage!
Real Recycled Content: Bare Naked A606/Cor-10™ has 8.6% pre-consumer and 56.8 post consumer recycled content which gives our product a minimum of 68% to 70% combined total scrap content. All steel is 100% recyclable after use. But Bare Naked™ products have no toxic surface paint or chemicals to be released as pollution in the smelting process. It’s Greener!
Scrap Reality: Bare Naked Cor-10™ uses 100% domestic scrap. This is a huge factor. Most all mills buy scrap from all over the world. In reality the US sells its scrap to China, India, Brazil ect…and then the US mills buy it back as a billet. A billet is a huge cake like brick of steel. It is made up of scrap that has been smelted and mixed with ore. The processes of smelting and mining in foreign countries are atrocious and contribute to over 10% of the world’s industrial pollution. We know of only one mill-the one we buy from in the USA that depends entirely on US scrap!
The Price: The price of steel is directly determined by the price of scrap on the commodity market. If the scrap is domestic that means it came from American scrap yards. These scrap yards play a huge role in the American steel economy. Scrap is made form all kinds of metal but mostly automotive. Those crushed cars, trucks; buses are the first link in the supply chain. They were once driving our roads, providing Americans jobs and driving our kids to schools. Then they become a commodity for the steel business. It is the first link! Selling it offshore is BAD!
Cor-10™ steel is produced in a facility using an electric arc furnace or EAF instead of blast oven or BOF. An EAF uses 60% less coal and that equals a huge reduction of the “carbon foot print” the mill has. It is our opinion that there is no such thing as clean coal so reducing the use of coal is a green hot issue.
The bottom line is, we Americans have to support American Mills, the “Buy American Act” is serious business and it is essential that American’s insist on American Manufactured Steel. Anything else creates a huge hole in our economy as well as a death wish for our environment.
